Updated October 23, 2026. Short answer: for reading a paper book in bed, start with the Energizer Flex-R Rechargeable Book Light. Its listing calls it a clip-on lamp with a warm LED, a flexible neck, and USB-C charging. If you want more than one color, the Gritin 16 LED Book Light and the Glocusent 12 LED Book Light are also clip-on lights, and the smaller Gritin Compact Clip-On Reading Light lists an amber setting. For reading on a computer screen, use a monitor light bar instead of a book light: the BenQ ScreenBar Pro is the main desk pick, and the BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2 adds a backlight and a wireless controller (stock was scarce when we checked). The original BenQ ScreenBar USB is the simpler USB monitor lamp. This is a researched guide from Amazon listing facts and manufacturer pages, not a hands-on test. We list no prices.

Two kinds of reading light

These seven lights are not one category. A clip-on book light sits on a paperback or a Kindle and aims a small beam at the page so the rest of the bedroom can stay dark. A monitor light bar clamps to the top of a computer screen and lights the desk. BenQ's listings describe that beam as asymmetrical so it does not shine into your eyes or bounce off the screen. We did not measure glare ourselves.

  • Clip-on book lights (bed reading): Energizer Flex-R, Gritin 16 LED, Glocusent 12 LED, Gritin compact.
  • Monitor light bars (screen reading): BenQ ScreenBar Pro and BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2. The original BenQ ScreenBar USB is the third, simpler monitor option if the Pro's thickness range does not fit.

A full desk lamp or floor lamp is a different purchase. Our desk lamps for reading guide covers swing-arm, clamp, and floor lamps for a table or an armchair. This page stays with lights you clip to a book or hang on a monitor.

What the listings actually say about warm light

The Macular Society says that by around age 60 most people need about three times as much light as they did in their twenties, and that a task light should land on the page rather than in the eyes. That is general lighting guidance, not a claim about any product below.

Warm-color notes on this page come only from listing or manufacturer wording:

  • The Energizer listing and Energizer's own product page describe a warm white LED. They do not list a Kelvin number or a second color.
  • The Gritin compact listing names three modes: amber 1800K, mixed 3400K, and white 6000K.
  • The Glocusent U.S. listing names five colors: 1800K, 2500K, 3400K, 4500K, and 6000K, and calls 1800K amber.
  • BenQ's U.S. FAQ lists 2700K to 6500K for the ScreenBar Pro (eight steps) and for the ScreenBar Halo 2. The original ScreenBar's Amazon listing also prints 2700K–6500K. 2700K is the warm end of that range. The cooler end is for daytime desk work.

Phrases such as "eye-caring," "eye-care," "easy on the eyes," and "reduces eye fatigue" are the sellers' words. We did not test eye comfort, flicker, or blue light, and this page is not medical advice. If print is still hard to read in good light, see our magnifiers guide and talk with an eye-care professional.

How we chose

  1. In stock on Amazon when checked through Amazon's Creators API on October 23, 2026. The Halo 2 was in stock but scarce. The original ScreenBar was in stock and sold by BenQ INFTY Lab, not by Amazon.com.
  2. A real clip or clamp described on the listing, so the light can sit on a book or on a monitor.
  3. A stated color story: a warm LED, named color modes, or an adjustable Kelvin range. We did not invent Kelvin numbers.
  4. Rechargeable book lights for bed, so there is no cord across the nightstand, plus one or two monitor bars for people who read on a screen.
  5. No prices, ratings, or lab scores. Every number below is a listing or manufacturer claim.

Clip-on book lights for bed

1. Energizer Flex-R Rechargeable Book Light: warm clip-on for bed reading

This is the top pick for a paper book in bed. Energizer's product page and the Amazon listing describe one rechargeable clip-on light with a warm white LED, a flexible neck, and a collapsible body. The clip is listed for surfaces up to 0.5 inch thick. Energizer's ANSI FL1 table lists 13 lumens, a 12-hour runtime, and a 4-meter beam distance. The Amazon listing also says the light is flicker-free and "easy on the eyes," and that the warm LED "minimizes sleep disruption." Those eye and sleep lines are Energizer's marketing. We did not measure them.

Choose it when you want one warm color and a familiar brand, and you do not need amber-versus-white switching. Skip it if the book, case, or tablet edge is thicker than half an inch, or if you want a cooler daytime color. It is a book light, not a room light. Sold by Amazon.com and in stock on the October 23, 2026 Creators check.

2. Gritin 16 LED Book Light: three color temperatures and a long runtime claim

The U.S. listing title checked through Creators on October 23, 2026 says this is a rechargeable clip-on book light for reading in bed, with three color temperatures, stepless dimming, up to 80 hours of runtime, and a lightweight flexible clip. Seller copy for the same ASIN on Amazon names the three modes mixed, white, and amber, and says the 80-hour figure is at the lowest brightness, with about 6 hours at high brightness. It also describes a USB-C charge and a neck you can bend. "Eye caring" is the seller's phrase.

Choose it when you want an amber option the Energizer does not list, and you can remember that the long runtime is the low-brightness claim. Skip it if you want a named Kelvin number on the U.S. title. The U.S. title we checked does not print one.

3. Glocusent 12 LED Book Light: five listed colors, including amber

The U.S. listing describes a compact rechargeable clip-on with 12 LEDs, five brightness levels, and five colors: 1800K, 2500K, 3400K, 4500K, and 6000K. It calls 1800K amber and calls the light eye-caring. It also says the battery is 650 mAh and the runtime is up to 100 hours. The same brightness bullet prints both a 3-lumen mode and a 360-lumen figure, which do not agree, so we are not quoting a lumen number. A U.K. listing for this ASIN prints a CRI of 80 or higher; the U.S. listing prints 90. We did not measure either.

Choose it when you want more color steps than the Gritin compact and a USB-C clip light. The October 23 Creators check showed it in stock, sold by GLOCUSENT. Skip it if you need a light that fills a whole desk. Twelve LEDs on a book clip are still a page light.

Check price on AmazonGlocusent 12 LED Book Light

4. Gritin Compact Clip-On Reading Light: amber, mixed, and white

The U.S. listing for the white model names three colors in Kelvin: amber 1800K, mixed 3400K, and white 6000K. Brightness is five steps (10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) plus a long-press dimmer. It lists a 500 mAh battery, USB-C charging, and 10 to 80 hours depending on the mode. The head is listed as tilting down 45 degrees and 90 degrees left or right, with the clip rotating 150 degrees. The listing again uses "eye protection" as seller language, and it says the light is meant to clip on a book.

Choose it when you want the smallest of these clips and a clearly named amber mode for bed. Skip it if you want the longer high-brightness runtime the 16-LED Gritin listing claims, or a single warm color with no mode button. The Creators check showed it in stock, sold by Blufits Sports Limited.

Monitor light bars for reading on a screen

A book light pointed at a glossy monitor usually reflects back at you. A monitor bar is the listing-backed option for email, news, or documents on a screen. It does not enlarge text. If the words are too small, raise the text size or see our tablets and e-readers guides. Pair a bar with a sensible screen height: our monitor arms guide covers that.

5. BenQ ScreenBar Pro: ultrawide monitor light for screen reading

The Amazon listing says the ScreenBar Pro puts more than 1,000 lux at the center and 500 lux across about 33 by 20 inches (85 by 50 cm). It lists a clamp for monitors 0.17 to 2.56 inches thick and for curves from 1000R to 1800R, a motion sensor that looks for movement within about 24 inches (plus or minus 4 inches) and turns off after 5 minutes away, and power from USB-C or the included adapter. BenQ's U.S. FAQ says the color range is 2700K to 6500K in eight steps. The listing calls the optics asymmetrical and "no glare," and it uses the phrase "eye-care." Those are BenQ's claims.

Choose it for a desktop monitor when you read on the screen and want the light on the desk, with a warm 2700K setting available at night. Sold by Amazon.com and in stock on the Creators check. Skip it for a paperback in bed, a laptop with no top bezel to clamp, or a monitor outside that thickness range.

Check price on AmazonBenQ ScreenBar Pro LED Monitor Light Bar

6. BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2 monitor light: backlight and a wireless controller

The Amazon listing adds a backlight behind the monitor and a wireless controller, and it prints a color range of 2700K to 6500K, CRI above 95, and a clamp for monitors 0.17 to 2.36 inches thick and curves from 1000R to 1800R. BenQ's user manual says the front light and the backlight use the same color temperature. You cannot set one warm and one cool. Brightness can be adjusted separately. The listing's "eye-care" and "no screen glare" lines are seller language.

Choose it when the dark wall behind the monitor bothers you at night and you want a dial instead of buttons on the bar. On October 23, 2026 the Creators check showed it in stock but scarce, sold by Amazon.com. Confirm the listing still has stock before you rely on it. Skip it if you only need light on a paper book.

Check price on AmazonBenQ ScreenBar Halo 2 LED Monitor Light Bar

7. BenQ ScreenBar USB: simpler auto-dimming monitor lamp

The original ScreenBar listing says it auto-dims, adjusts from 2700K to 6500K, claims CRI above 95, and spreads 500 lux over about 23.6 by 11.8 inches. The clamp is listed for monitors 0.4 to 1.2 inches thick and for curves of 1500R and above, which is a narrower fit than the Pro. Power is USB, not the Pro's USB-C-or-adapter setup. BenQ's spec page lists center illuminance of 930 lux at 45 cm. The listing also says the LEDs are flicker-free and "anti-blue light hazard." That is a seller certification claim we did not verify.

Choose it when the monitor bezel is in that thinner range and you want touch controls on the bar. The Creators check showed it in stock, sold by BenQ INFTY Lab rather than Amazon.com, so read the seller line on the listing. Skip it for a very thick or tightly curved monitor the Pro's wider clamp range is listed to cover.

How to set one up

  • Book in bed: clip the light to the top of the book or case, on the side opposite your dominant hand if you can, and bend the neck so the beam hits the page. The Energizer clip is listed only to 0.5 inch.
  • Warm setting at night: on the Gritin compact, use the listed amber 1800K mode. On Glocusent, the listing's warmest step is 1800K. On the Energizer, warm white is the only color. On a BenQ bar, 2700K is the warm end of the published range.
  • Monitor bar: seat the clamp on the top bezel, check the listed thickness, and aim the head at the desk. If you see the lamp in the screen, tilt it down. BenQ tells ScreenBar owners not to block the light sensor if auto-dimming is on.
  • Cord and charging: book lights here are rechargeable. Charge them before bed. Do not run a USB cable across the floor. For the walk to the bathroom, use a motion-sensor night light, not the book light.
  • Partner in the room: a clip light on the page spills less than a ceiling light. It can still bother someone facing it. Point it down at the book.

Who should skip these

If you read at a table or in an armchair and want a lamp with a published lumen or lux figure and a shade, use the desk-lamp guide instead. If you mostly read ebooks, a front-lit e-reader such as a Kindle Paperwhite already has its own light; a basic Kindle without a built-in light is the case for a clip-on. If the gift is for a grandparent who already owns a tablet they do not use, our gifts for grandparents page is the wider list. None of these lights treat an eye disease.

FAQ

What is the best reading light for seniors in bed?

For a paper book in bed, we start with the Energizer Flex-R Rechargeable Book Light. The listing and Energizer's product page describe a warm white LED, a clip for surfaces up to 0.5 inch thick, a flexible neck, USB-C charging, and up to 12 hours of runtime. If you want a warmer amber step you can switch on, the Gritin compact lists 1800K amber, and the Glocusent lists 1800K as its warmest of five colors.

Are book lights and monitor light bars the same thing?

No. The Energizer, both Gritin lights, and the Glocusent are clip-on book lights for a page in bed. The three BenQ ScreenBar models clamp to a monitor and are for reading on a screen. BenQ's listings say the beam is shaped to avoid screen glare. We did not test that.

Which of these lights have a warm color?

The Energizer is listed as warm white only. The Gritin compact lists amber at 1800K. The Glocusent lists 1800K, 2500K, 3400K, 4500K, and 6000K. BenQ lists 2700K to 6500K on the ScreenBar Pro, ScreenBar Halo 2, and original ScreenBar, so 2700K is the warm setting. We are not saying any of these treat eye strain.

Do monitor lights work for reading a paper book?

They light the desk in front of a monitor. They are a poor fit for a paperback in bed. Use a clip-on book light for that, or a desk lamp if you read at a table.

Was the BenQ ScreenBar Halo 2 in stock?

On October 23, 2026 Amazon's Creators API showed ASIN B0DK59YKRS in stock but scarce, sold by Amazon.com. Check the live listing. Scarce stock can sell out.

Why don't you list prices?

Amazon prices change often. We checked listing features on October 23, 2026 and left prices off so the page does not go stale. Use the buttons for today's price.
